Important things to remember: In every business, time is very important – it is GOLD. Always remember that, having a well-organized workplace will result to a more efficient, more productive, and safer production. Last month we had a seminar regarding business. Our guest speaker then started talking of the 5S Process. During the discussion, he told us that “5S” originated in Japan and it stands for five (5) Japanese words that start with the letter “S” namely: Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, and Shitsuke. In English usage, these are: Sort, Systematize, Sweep, Standardize, and Sustain. SEIRI is the first step of the “5S” process that refers to removing all the unnecessary things/materials in the workplace. Ensuring that all left materials in the workplace are work related. SEITON is the second step, which is all about efficiency. This refers to putting everything in proper place so that it can be retrieved quickly. Third step is SESO, which refers to cleanliness. Cleaning your workplace is necessary. Fourth step is SEIKETSU, which refers to standardize way of sustaining cleanliness. This demand both personal and environmental cleanliness. The last step of 5S is SHITSUKE, which refers to discipline. It commits individual to practice the 5S daily. Having the “5S” will help us motivate our morale and it promotes a sense of pride in our workplace and ownership of our responsibilities. After that seminar, my way of life has changed then. Because I apply the “5S” daily in everything I do.
